name

Rural clinic . South Mombasa coastal village.

The clinic is located to the south of Kenya’s coastal city of Mombasa, Kenya's second city. Mombasa is a city caught between magnificent beauty of white sunny and sandy beaches with natural decorations of palm trees and mangrove forests, thriving marine life, rich culture and a number of economic, social and environmental challenges that may destroy the it faster than it was built. Though Mombasa is a city endowed with scenes that never leaves the minds of those who have visited it, whether for work or pleasure, it also has shells of pain and sadness, diseases and social inadequacies that range from health care to education and employment. Kingston Medical Services was created to help bridge some the demands - It is the only medical institution that offers 24 hours medical services within the part of the city that is home to scores of thousands.

place

This project would best suit medical professionals who would like to extend help to a needy society. The level of responsibilities a volunteer is given at the hospital depends on a person’s medical background. Fully qualified medics are given more responsibilities in administering treatment and handling issues pertaining to medical practice.

would suit    This program would suit medics wishing to work in a slum step up. The clinic is small and cannot therefore accommodate big groups. This is a more needy area and would benefit from people who want to reach out that bit further. A month or two here could change lives and even save them. This is a quite location and time would often be spent chatting with locals and educating them on health care, Hiv and other relevant issues.
acommodation

Volunteers who decide to take on this project will be accommodated with a carefully selected host family. All meals and water will be provided in addition to a laundry service. This is a friendly and busy community where you would make friends very quickly.

our view   Most clinics in Kenya struggle to get by. This one is no exception. If you want to spend time in a needy clinic that's not to far remote this is ideal. The staff here are very warm and would welcome any help they can get. You would be as involved as you wish. Ideal for those committed to real and raw volunteering. This is a quite and sleepy area however and their may be lots of spare time as this clinic is normally quiet. So you may wish to walk down the beaches for a swim in the afternoons!
local act

It is usually said of Kenya that, “A visit to Kenya without a stop at Mombasa is no visit to Kenya” The city is a wash with activities ranging from a swimming to basking on the white sandy beaches. For a memorable swim, a trip to Kisite Marine Park would make Kenya a person’s favorite get a way destination. Imagine tasking a swim on a perfectly white sandy island at the middle of nowhere.
Mombasa is also surrounded with a number animal parks including Ts
avo National park which is three hours away. Shimba hills game reserve where some of the biggest elephants in the world are found is also a couple of kilometers away from the city. For nature lovers, there are loads of aquatic flora and fauna, and topography to marvel at. The southern coast of Mombasa is full of lagoons to snorkel in as well as a visit to the Mangrove swamps where you can canoe and spot the crocodiles! In Mombasa the party never stops for the out going people with a varied selection of bars and restaurants. ( all inexpensive)
(We can add on a Safari when you are in Kenya. You don't have to book in advance if you have not made your mind up.)
