To many just the thought of
Kenya brings images of wild animals such as Lions and Rhinos. People
also remember the dramatic landscapes from films such as "Born Free"
and "Out of Africa" and "The ghost and the darkness". Nature itself
seems to have handed out the top prize to Kenya . From Snow capped
mountain peaks to arid dry rift valleys, lush
tropical tea and coffee
plantations to coral reefs and vast savannahs hosting some of the most
spectacular wildlife action on earth. Kenya indeed lives up to and surpasses
its image.
One of the major attractions is
to Climb Mount Kenya. Clocking in at 5199M its Africa's second highest
mountain. The mountain above the forest line is a national park and it
supports rainforests and thickets of bamboo, while higher up magical
moorland of giant lobelia and heather.
The
forests are home to elephant, buffalo, monkeys, antelope and giant
forest hog. The Central Highlands, which comprise Mt Kenya and the
Aberdares, is the homeland of the Kikuyu people, who hold the mountain
sacred.
There are about 4 main routes to
the peaks which can be organized in
advance.
The far reaching views and diversity of the climb make it a desirable
challenge for thousands every year.
Inspire Kenya can organize a
trip to climb mount Kenya either on its own or part of a volunteer
break. Allow a 7 day period to complete to climb.
Cost $850 £425 €625
