We work with Youth development that works with
impoverished populations in both rural and urban areas of Rajasthan, India.
It is a semi dry area with barren lands, less industry and rare
opportunities of for employment.
These communities reside in unorganized areas and receive rare attention and
the privilege of education, primary health and
social development. The focal points of social development like-government
schools, child care centers and community development centers are ill
equipped, understaffed and poorly managed. So volunteers
can help bridge the gap.
Volunteers can engage with the following activities
customised time frames with each to maximise the volunteers enjoyment and
provide support to each where possible.
Nursing in Child
Care Centers
Child Care
Centers serve as focal points to carry out activities for child development
and women's empowerment. The local staff is responsible for delivering
services at the community level including nutritional supplements, vaccines
etc to children below six years of age, pregnant and nursing mothers and
adolescent girls.
These centers also serve as the meeting place for women's groups and
mother's clubs for promoting health and social awareness.
Volunteers assist the workers in their daily activities that include-
Personal attention and care of the children
Assistance for record maintenance of each child
Preparing and feeding the children, a nutritious meal everyday
Continuous survey of all pregnant women and new born babies in the area for
regular health check ups and vaccination.
Creating a colorful and joyful environment for the children with games,
stories and other creative activities
Teaching in
Schools
Volunteers
assist teachers in rural government schools that are generally being
attended by the children from poor families. Teachers have many more
responsibilities to share, in addition to their teachings. As a result, they
are unable to pay due attention towards the children. Generally, they have
no choice but to, just manage the mass of children.
Teaching in a different environment, not only provides an opportunity to the
volunteers for developing their own skills but also adds to the educational
experience of the children. Volunteers can create a better learning
environment for the children, by using their skills and knowledge
enthusiastically and energetically.
Volunteer's activities at schools include-
Teaching Basic
English and Mathematics to the children of 6 to 11 years of age.
Working with teachers to prepare low cost material aids
Monitoring attendance of the children regularly
Helping in cooking and serving mid day meal
Monitoring health and hygiene of the children
Creating a play full environment
Street
Kids
A large number of Indian
children from impoverished localities, who had never been to schools and
never came across health or skill development education, are struggling for
their livelihood. They collect garbage; pick the rags from streets to mange
two times bread. Some of them fall in the net of drug traffickers for want
of money.
Majority of them are in the age group of 5 to 15 years. Generally, there
life begins from the streets and ends up in the streets. They live a life
that is void of love and warmth, safety, protection and parental care.
Volunteer participants provide them with basic
education, health awareness tips, recreation by means of play and fun and
above all the love and affection to bring a smile on their faces.
Interacting with children at any level can provide hope and care.
Community
Development
Due to poor economic condition,
a large number of Indian populations don't get opportunity to have access to
basic education, primary health facilities and job opportunities. As a
result, they remain illiterate, unskilled, jobless and malnourished. The
situation is more complex in rural villages comparing to the urban areas.
Lack of awareness and ignorance of the administration adds up to their
sufferings.
Volunteers can play an important role by participating in various social
activities that create a better platform to develop cross cultural exchange,
understanding between the communities and lead to an overall development of
the communities.
Volunteer's Activities include-
Organize community awareness campaigns in cooperation with local
coordinators.
Organize health camps for medical check up, vaccinations and medication
Renovation, maintenance and beautification of the work places
Planting/reforestation. Practical skills welcome!
Women's
Empowerment
Life of Indian women and female
infants is full of struggles and oppressions, especially in the rural areas
of Rajasthan. The hardships caused by adverse environmental conditions and
the weight of tradition aggravate their disadvantages. They are often denied
the same food, education and medical care as boys. As a result, they suffer
from malnutrition, poor health and lack of education and skills.
Youth
Touch / Inspire has taken up the issue to protect, support and
empower the women through various volunteer activities that include -
Informal education and skill development trainings to make them self reliant
Basic computer teaching to adolescent girls and young women
Conversational English teaching to adolescent girls and young womenOn
all projects, volunteers are mentored and work with existing staff servicing
the local needs in all of the above. We are of course interested in hearing
if you have any specific skills that can be used to help. You could have a
talent for art, computers, gardening, music, dance or anything you fell you
can pass onto these people to inspire them during your time for a better
life.

Couples, gap years, mature volunteers, professionals,
lone female volunteers and anyone looking to reach out and be flexible and
willing to help out in a different culture. Indians are very welcoming,
gentle and friendly people who will look after you very well indeed. We can
also handle donations to this project for those wishing to contribute but
cant give the time to go. We send pictures back of what your donation has
actually bought. English is widely spoken in India and just expose to
English can help educate almost everyone you meet. The projects can also
handle groups with funds wishing to carry out a specific task such as
painting, construction, creating play areas. The possibilities are limitless

Volunteers are accommodated with host family in a
rural farm that offers them an opportunity to experience life of a typical
Indian family and learn about our culture while enjoying free time to visit
the many exciting places India has to offer.
The farm has clean and comfortable rooms (twin sharing basis) with European
toilets, 24 hour running water and electricity, enjoy home made food-3 times
a day, a dinning hall and plenty of open space to organize cultural
workshops, meetings, socialize and recreation. The farm is quite close to a
town where volunteers can explore fascinating markets and places of
recreation to utilize their free time.
Other facilities at the
farm include
24 hours emergency support
Internet access through multiple computers
Incoming phone facility
Telephone facility for making international calls within very close
proximity of the farm.

The farm is being managed independently.
All time presence of cooking and other support staff that is familiar to the
local community and the projects. This ensures total comfort and safety of
the volunteers.
A refrigerator to store food/drinks

Volunteers can also share the kitchen to practice Indian cooking or prepare
a meal of individual choice

volunteers at the farm, an orientation is being conducted to ensure, they
understand the programs and Indian culture. The contents include
introduction to local Youth Touch team
who will look after you, work areas, camp facilities, teaching
techniques, safety, transport and lectures on Indian culture, History, caste
system, traditions and customs. Everything is conducted
in a relaxed and informal manner so you can quickly settle in and feel at
home. You are under no pressure! |

An interesting mixture of activities for those seeking
something a little different. The area is safe, hot and full of wonderful
people whose hospitality is hard to describe. India is a assault on all the
senses and is wonderfully addictive. The food, culture and people really
enjoy taking care of visitors, and being able to watch them help the locals.
With wonderful places to visit at the weekend and the chance to do such a
variety of activities, this truly is an experience of getting closer to
India and its people than you could imagine. With the project being very
customisable, you simply wont want to go home at the end! |

We organize
workshops for our volunteers to learn and experience yoga, Hindi language,
Indian cooking, Indian dressing and henna painting. This part of activity is
generally being organized in the evening after work. These workshops provide
easy and fun ways to relax and learn something about Indian culture.
Volunteers are delivered with plenty of Hindi lessons during the first week
of the program. This makes them more comfortable with the children and also
makes the communication more effective. It helps them to socialize with the
community and understand their feelings.
Cultural Immersion
Youth Touch volunteers get unique opportunities to visit fascinating markets
for shopping, local fairs and festivals, participate in social celebrations
like -weddings, birthday parties etc, observe the Indian traditions,
customs, the Indian life style and experience a true immersion into the
Indian culture.
Excursions
Volunteers are offered weekend excursions to enjoy the exciting
adventures like-camel safari at Pushkar, a night in desert with traditional
Indian food, a jungle safari in Ranthambore, visit to Amber fort and City
Palace in Jaipur and a visit to Taj Mahal in Agra to carry ever lasting
memories from this wonderland. The local staff can
arrange and discuss on your induction things of interest and places you
might like to visit during your stay. As we use local operators the tours
prices are very competitive indeed. |
